Wayne Welch
Mr. Welch was born in the foothills of the Smoky Mountains in far western North Carolina. After High School and a four-year stint in the U.S. Air Force, he began college. He then required five more years to complete a master’s degree. During these years as he pursued his studies, he was at various times a pastor, and insurance salesman, a roughneck, an apprentice machinist, a carpenter’s helper, a painter etc. For ten more years, he pursued a doctorate while working as a psychotherapist at the state hospital and the Texas prison system. The doctorate was never completed. Instead he moved to Houston to work in Christ-centered acute care psychiatric units.
