Description

A tender story and an effective tool to help children suffering loss understand their feelings and work through them. The Day Sad Arrived was inspired by a young man who today is sixteen years old. When he was eleven, he was extremely depressed. During a counseling session theAuthor asked him, “What day did Sad arrive?” He stopped, thought a moment, and replied, “The day my uncle committed suicide.” That was the day when God began to change this young man’s life. He worked hard to discover new feelings and to see them as friends rather than foes. Today, this young man is in ministry and is blessing many people in his walk with the Lord. “This tender story provides children with a helpful understanding of their feelings in the wake of a deep loss. Counselors and parents will find this to be a valuable tool in the healing process.” – Robin Jones Gunn, Best sellingAuthor of the Mrs. Posey books featured in the I Can Read series by Zonderkids “Clever, creative, and thought- provoking, The Day Sad Arrived is a must-read for any child or adult who has suffered a loss, as it gives permission to feel the full range of conflicting emotions that accompany sadness. This book provides a practical framework for understanding the complexity of the grief process by putting a face and name to this ethereal emotion. I anticipate this being an effective therapeutic tool for clients of all ages.” – Michelle J. Watson, PhD, LPC, A private counselor, practicing and, specializing in eating disorders and trauma recovery.

The Day Sad Arrived is a very well-written book that can help not only children, but adults, understand the feelings that may come on after the loss of a loved one.In this story, a young boy is experiencing depression after the death of his uncle. The ingenious descriptive narrative paints a perfect picture of what grieving can feel like. During the process the boy gets help from a wise, sympathetic counselor who gives him coping tools to help him unload the weight of grief that has been following him around and dragging him down. Using the skills he receives from the counselor, whom he calls the lady with sparkly glasses, the boy learns to put words to his feelings. He also learns that it’s ok to feel the way he does because everyone has to deal with sad at some time in their life. The boy finds out too, that even though he is mad at God, he can talk to him about it because God can handle anything. This book is comforting to read and would be useful for anybody, especially parents and counselors.
