What? Do I Really Need a Website?

Posted in ,

For some authors, having a website is no big deal, not intimidating, and a simple feat to conquer. For others it’s daunting and almost impossible to confront.

For years I’ve shared with authors the importance of making your book available in every possible sales channel, since you just never know where your audience likes to buy their books. You don’t want to miss an opportunity to have new readers hear what God has given you to share, so you just can’t afford to have limited access to your book.

In other words, your book should be available on Amazon, but not only there. Some Christians don’t appreciate their control over authors and publishers, or even some of the ungodly books they sell on their site, so won’t buy from them. But some folks have a Prime account and won’t buy anywhere else. Your book should be available through Christian bookstores, secular bookstores, CBD.com (Christian Book Distributors), Amazon.com, Barnes&Noble.com, Books-a-Million, even through a toll free phone number or by sending a check in the mail.

And so it is with an internet presence. If you don’t have a place in cyberspace, where people can find you and connect with you, then you are losing potential readers, it’s as simple as that.

An author without a website is like a salesman without a business card!

And just as I’ve declared for many years, you never have a second chance to make a good impression with your book cover and message…the same adage applies with a website, blog, or social media presence. Your presence online should look professional and the content should be compelling.

Think about it for a minute. How often have you seen a great looking website but found the content lacking? How many times have you “liked” a Facebook author page and found their postings inconsistent and, ummmm, well….boring?

Don’t let that be you! A strategic, well thought out message on all your platforms is vital. In fact, as a company we’ve just gone through the process and love the final outcome. Not only do we know how it feels to be overwhelmed with too many other things to do to worry about a major overhaul on our website, but we also know the joys of working through the process and growing each step of the way.

If you’re struggling with knowing which direction to go, give us a call and we’ll see what we can do to help get you pointed in the right direction. You may just need a few hours of coaching to help you build your own site. Or what you really need may be a professional designer and marketing copywriter to help you in the branding process and then create a site that will accurately portray the essence of who you are and what you stand for.

Either way, we want to be a resource for you, an encouragement to you, and a tool for empowering you to get your message out to those who need to read it!

Blessings on your day!

Athena

Meet the Publisher

I've been around Christian publishing since 1987 when I helped our ministry self-publish an important resource for Vietnam veterans and their families. That book went on to be picked up by a royalty publisher and has since sold over 250,000 copies with a million in print.

I'm glad you're here…stop by often and take advantage of all the information we make available.
